We did it. We said, “I do” right as the sun was about to set over our little East Texas town of Harleton.
We’re a couple who loves time in the woods, seeking out random roadside attractions, listening to good music, and finding a local place you might see on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. We really wanted a wedding & reception that ‘felt like us’ and was relaxed & fun. If you’re anything like us, you’re gonna love reading all about our big day.
Taco ‘Bout Our East TX Wedding
Our wedding was pretty & peaceful; mason jar lights, topiaries, wooden flowers, a cowhide rug, & a Texas flag.
Family & friends all sat on country chic benches & chairs underneath patio lights and a beautiful Texas sky.
Best of all, I married my best friend & love; my heart was so happy!
Wright On Taco Shop 🌮
We love good food, you might even say we’re foodies. We prefer to eat local food (especially when we travel). It can be a local chain, but it’s not going to be McDonalds or Chili’s, if you get my drift.
Besides local food, I adore really good tacos.
Translation: Nothing at ‘The Bell’ is touching my lips.
We just happen to have some very close friends that own a local taco shop that we love, Wright On Taco Shop, and they agreed to let us have our wedding & reception there.
Seriously, if you’re anywhere in East Texas, you have to make a detour to Harleton, Texas and & try the Dude (my favorite taco with brisket) or the Sweetness (Sparky’s favorite with shrimp). Get some chips & queso while you’re at it.
Everything they make is amazing. Try it all. Then go smooch where we said, “I do” under the Texas flag. We’re so Texan.
I love the food at Wright On Taco Shop, as you can tell, but I also love the ambience.
They have the most adorable décor. In addition to throwing down tv worthy tacos, Julie has an eye for decorating.
[I think I’m their biggest fan (after all blood relatives, of course). Unless you have your baby on the patio & name it Dude. 😉]
I really didn’t need to do much to decorate, but as anyone who has planned a wedding knows, you end up doing more than you imagined.
A few decorations were gifted to me from a friend, our friends at Wright On Taco Shop had a few things we borrowed, and I strived to only buy things that were consumable or would be used again.
It was actually more beautiful than I had imagined.
Live Music by Patrick James Freden 🎤
Originally, we’d planned to have a playlist for music…BUT… as luck would have it, we heard Patrick James Freden play on St. Patrick’s Day at the taco shop.
We really enjoyed the mix of music that he played, & he took my request for a Keith Urban song. He was friendly & chatted with us during his break, so we were able to get his business card.
Patrick agreed to play at our wedding, offered to learn special songs for us, and happily obliged my request to eliminate Eagles music from his playlist (I.Can’t.Stand.The.Eagles).
I ‘walked the aisle’ with Patrick playing “Making Memories Of Us,” by Keith Urban and somehow kept from crying as I walked toward Sparky. ❤
Patrick is a talented musician with excellent communication, friendly, and definitely hard working. Trust me, you want him for your party. I told him to expect to play at our Anniversary party in a few years!
Kindred Photo & Video, LLC 📷🎥
I started following a photography company on Instagram, Kindred Photo & Video, a few months ago.
They sent me a message asking if we had plans for a photographer, and offered to take our wedding pictures in exchange for a gift to charity. Carrie & David (the photography team at Kindred) occasionally use their photography skills as a ministry, working for donations to Extreme Response International.
I said, “Yes” to the pics & video! 😉
Kindred took all of our engagement & wedding pictures. They are TALENTED photographers, but they’re also incredibly big-hearted, honest,& friendly people as well. They even let me decide where my donation would go, and I chose a Manila Children’s Home in the Philippines.
At the risk of sounding cheesy, I absolutely feel God brought them into our lives. They were a blessing. I have pictures I will treasure forever, I will definitely use their services again, & have told everyone about them.
Happily Ever After
I guess you could say a wedding reception is the start of your ‘Happily Ever After’ as a couple. We sure had fun at ours – crazy good tacos, a candy bar including our favorite Jefferson General Store Pralines, live music, glow lights, singing & dancing, friends & family. It was a perfect day to start our life as Mr. & Mrs.
My Sparky sang me a song..
And we danced as our good friend Brian played us a song…
Hope y’all enjoyed reading about our special day. HUGE heartfelt thanks to all our family & friends for celebrating with us!
Lots of good stuff coming now that the wedding & honeymoon are over & we‘re back to ‘real life‘ again. I’ve got to tell y’all all about hunting my FIRST DEER when we got back to Texas!
